Streets reopened & redirected as Madison Street infrastructure project progresses
As part of the ongoing Madison Street Area Infrastructure Improvements Project, the City today announced updated street access and circulation changes to better improve traffic flow and support the ongoing construction. The project aims to reduce rainfall flooding and upgrade critical underground infrastructure on Madison Street between Ninth and 11th Streets.
The following vehicular circulation changes have been implemented:
- 11th Street between Jefferson and Monroe Streets – reverted eastbound only
- 10th Street between Madison and Jefferson Streets – reverted westbound only
- Ninth Street between Madison and Monroe Streets – closed
- Madison Street – Open
Detour signs, variable message boards, and temporary no-parking signs remain in place to help direct traffic and effectuate construction. Hoboken Police will assist with traffic and pedestrian safety as needed.
The Green Hop and Senior Hop have resumed regular routes in the area including stops on Madison Street and ShopRite.
NHSA shared an updated schedule following unanticipated underground utility conflicts, weather delays, and unexpected utility lead times. According to the latest schedule projections, the project is anticipated to wrap in October with final paving, cleanup, signage, and new tree plantings.
