The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.  
 
MONDAY, AUGUST 18, 2025: 

12:19 AM Officer Berlanga investigated a stolen vehicle reported on Newpark Mall Rd.

7:00 AM Officer S. Torres investigated multiple scams reported by outside agencies targeting the elderly, involving suspicious packages. Officers intercepted and recovered multiple packages with thousands of dollars in cash mailed to an address in Newark.

12:11 PM Officer Quinonez responded to a report of a suspicious person near Cedar and Lido Blvds. A 20-year-old male was arrested for prowling and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

1:20 PM Community Service Officer (CSO) Lau investigated multiple vehicle vandalisms reported on Birch St.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 19, 2025: 

4:40 AM Officer Kim investigated a report of mail theft on Potrero Dr.

10:39 AM Officers responded to a shoplifting incident near Jarvis Ave and Newark Blvd. A 26-year-old female was arrested for petty theft and resisting arrest. She was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

11:36 PM Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon in the 5600 block of Thornton. An 18-year-old male was later arrested for attempted murder and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20, 2025: 

2:17 AM Officer Norvell investigated a report of a stolen vehicle on Newpark Mall Rd.

9:36 AM Officer Shaffer conducted a pedestrian stop near Thornton Ave and Hickory St. A 41-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics and violation of probation. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

12:23 PM Officer Shaffer conducted a pedestrian stop near Stevenson and Cedar Blvds. A 34-year-old male was cited for possession of narcotics.

12:23PM While on active patrol near Cedar Blvd and Lafayette Ave., Officer Williams witnessed a 58-year-old male vandalizing a vehicle. He was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.  

THURSDAY, AUGUST 21, 2025: 

10:28 AM CSO Lau investigated a catalytic converter theft reported near Newark Blvd and Bellhaven Ave.

1:36 PM Officer Shaffer conducted a traffic enforcement stop near Central Ave and Timber St. A 37-year-old male was cited for possession of narcotics and driving without a license.

3:57 PM Officer Kapu investigated a vehicle collision near Thornton Ave and Cedar Blvd. One driver was cited for driving without a license.

7:13 PM Officers investigated a trespassing incident reported on Mowry Ave. A 45-year-old male was arrested for trespassing, theft, and obstructing officers. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 22, 2025: 

5:37 AM Officer Lor investigated a report of a stolen vehicle near Rockrose Dr and Moores Ave.

8:04-11:15AM Officer Medina investigated multiple window smash vehicle burglaries reported on Salt Grass Rd. There were no reported losses.

9:24 AM Officer Shaffer conducted a traffic enforcement stop near Cedar Blvd. and S. Magazine. A 48-year-old female was cited for driving on a suspended license.

10:17 AM Officer Lomeli investigated a theft reported near Hickory St and Whitesurf Way. Reported loss included two pairs of high-end shoes taken from the front porch of a residence.

11:40 AM Officer Shaffer investigated multiple reports of mail theft throughout the city.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 23, 2025: 

9:53 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a burglary of community mailboxes on Lookout Way.

9:57 AM Officer Lomeli investigated a vehicle burglary that occurred overnight near Darvon St and Dupont Ave. Reported loss included a wallet left in the vehicle.

11:03 AM Officer Jackman investigated a package theft reported near Magnolia St and Graham Ave. Investigation is ongoing.  

6:56 PM Officer Berlanga investigated a vandalism to a vehicle reported near Sycamore St and Clark Ave.

9:56 PM Officer Pacheco conducted a traffic stop near Thornton Ave and Sycamore St. A 46-year-old-male was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 24, 2025: 

12:00 AM Officer Stevenson responded to a report of a battery near Thornton Ave and Hickory St. Upon further investigation, an 18-year-old male was later arrested for battery and evading a peace officer.

3:56 PM Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 6200 block of Baine Ave. This is an ongoing investigation.

4:14 PM Officer Jackman responded to a disturbance near Thornton Ave and Cedar Blvd. A 30-year-old male was arrested for domestic violence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

6:55 PM Officer Berlanga investigated an attempted commercial burglary. The emergency exit door was damaged, but entry was unsuccessful. This is an ongoing investigation.
