Community Alert – Swatting Incident at the Princeton Public Library. No emergency present.
Earlier this afternoon, the Princeton Police Department responded to the Princeton Public Library following a report of an individual with a firearm. Officers immediately responded, swiftly checked the area, and confirmed that no such individual was located. Further investigation determined the report to be non-credible.
This type of false report is commonly referred to as “swatting.” Swatting is a criminal act in which a person makes a hoax emergency call with the intent of triggering a large police response. These incidents are disruptive, create unnecessary fear, and divert critical public safety resources away from genuine emergencies.
The Princeton Police Department takes all reports of potential threats seriously and remains committed to the safety of our community. While today’s incident was determined to be a false alarm, our officers will continue to respond with urgency to ensure the protection of residents, visitors, and community spaces.
