SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY SHERIFF SHANNON DICUS RESPONDS TO GOVERNOR NEWSOM’S DEPLOYMENT OF CRIME SUPPRESSION TEAMS STATEWIDE

SAN BERNARDINO, CA – Sheriff Shannon Dicus issued the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement regarding the deployment of California Highway Patrol (CHP) crime suppression teams across California, including San Bernardino County:

“The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is aware of the Governor’s announcement regarding the deployment of California Highway Patrol crime suppression teams in the Inland Empire.

Previous CHP deployments were in coordination with the San Bernardino Police Department within the city. These teams will not be conducting random patrols across the Sheriff’s Department’s jurisdiction and unincorporated areas, outside of their normal traffic enforcement responsibilities. However, we welcome CHP’s integration into Operation Consequences and Operation Smash and Grab.

Operation Consequences is a regional effort spanning multiple law enforcement areas, bringing together specialized Sheriff’s units and allied agencies on a monthly basis to conduct targeted crime suppression. These operations have already delivered strong results, including multiple ghost gun seizures, narcotics interdictions, and the arrest of repeat offenders.

The addition of CHP resources would further enhance these efforts and advance our shared mission of reducing violent crime and protecting businesses and families throughout San Bernardino County.”

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department remains committed to working collaboratively with local, state, and federal partners to address violent crime, safeguard neighborhoods, and support economic vitality throughout the region. By aligning resources under a unified strategy, we will continue to ensure that San Bernardino County is a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.
