VICTIM(S): Withheld, 47-year-old Resident of Landers
SUMMARY: On Sunday, August 31, 2025, deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a residence in Landers regarding a report of a shooting near the Giant Rock boulder.
The victim reported that shortly before 1:00 a.m., he stopped at the Giant Rock boulder, where approximately 20–30 people and multiple vehicles were gathered. While at the location, the victim became involved in a verbal altercation with an unidentified male. At approximately 1:00 a.m., the victim left the area, driving southbound on Giant Rock Road while towing a trailer carrying an off-highway vehicle. As the victim departed, he heard several gunshots coming from behind him. Upon arriving home a short time later, he discovered bullet strikes to the rear of his trailered off-highway vehicle. The victim believed he was intentionally targeted. Deputies responded to Giant Rock and confirmed that no injuries were reported. Several campers in the area stated that 20–30 people were present at the time of the incident; however, most left immediately after the gunfire and were gone before deputies arrived.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is actively seeking information from anyone who witnessed the incident or can identify the suspect involved.
