Community Notification: Waterfowl Hunting Season; Reminder of Dates, Hours & Regulations

The annual waterfowl hunting season for several species is underway, and the Green Bay Police Department is reminding the public of dates, hours, and regulations.

This community notification is also intended for the neighborhood of East Shore Drive, where residents who live along the Bay of Green Bay may see hunters and hear shooting.

The overall Wisconsin season is September 1, 2025, through January 2, 2026. Hunting is permitted 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset. For exact dates and times when hunting is allowed in each zone, check with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Hunters may lawfully pursue migratory birds in the waters of the Bay beginning at the edge. This area includes the waters in front of Bay Beach Park, the warehouse/marina shoreline, the west shore including Ken Euers Nature Trail per City of Green Bay Ordinance 26-6, and the east shore northeast of Mahon Creek. Then, in the residential area east of Bay Beach Park, and west of Mahon Creek, hunters must be 100 ft from the bulkhead shoreline, per Brown County Ordinance 31.02(3). For a frame of reference, this is approximately five car lengths.

Regarding trespassing, hunters must stay in the water as the water levels change so they are not on dry land. If hunters have a duck blind that starts in the water and gets brought to shore, they have a right to retrieve their blind without breaking the trespassing law. If a bird falls on private property, it does not belong to the landowner; however, hunters need to ask the property owner for permission before retrieval. If not permitted, the DNR should be called for retrieval.
