Sheriff's Marine Enforcement Unit Makes 10 BUI Arrests Over Holiday Weekend and Issued Numerous Citations

Summary:
The San Bernardino County Sheriff Department’s Marine Enforcement Unit conducted its Labor Day Holiday Enforcement Operation starting on Friday, August 29th through Monday, September 1st.
The operation was conducted along the Colorado River from the California/Nevada state line to the Riverside County line as well as Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead
Most of the operation was focused on the waterways with resorts, launch ramps and marinas along the river and lakes. A total of 10 patrol vessels, an OHV team, and a Sheriff's Department helicopter were deployed throughout the area. The Marine Enforcement Unit conducted a total of 124 enforcement stops throughout the holiday weekend and there was a total of 10 arrests made for boating under the influence. The following are the names of the individuals arrested during the operation:
Shawn Jenkins, 56 years of age, Mohave Valley, Az. (Boating under the influence)
Michael Avila, 55 years of age, Atascadero, Ca. (Boating under the influence)
Clinton Nelson, 34 years of age, Rimrock, Az. (Boating under the influence)
Melissa Medina, 51 years of age, Goodyear, Az. (Boating under the influence)
Brandon Rodriguez, 27 years of age, Cypress, Ca. (Boating under the influence)
Andrew Eddy, 28 years of age, Phelan, Ca. (Boating under the influence)
Connor Rowe, 21 years of age, Santa Clarita, Ca. (Boating under the influence)
Humberto Olivas, 52 years of age, Victorville, Ca. (Boating under the influence)
Collan Harrington, 21 years of age, Irvine, Ca. (Boating under the influence)
Mitchell Burgess, 30 years of age, Fort Collins, Co (Boating under the influence)
Approximately 84 citations were issued for various boating law violations as well as hundreds of verbal warnings. The Marine Enforcement Unit investigated a total of three boat accidents, a boat fire that occurred on the Lake Havasu near Havasu Palms Resort, a sinking boat that occurred on the Parker strip, and an injury accident which occurred on the Parker strip near Emerald Cove Resort. The injured party was transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit urges all California residents to go online to www.californiaboatercard.com and take the online test to obtain their boater card, which is now required by law, regardless of age. The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit is, as always, dedicated to providing a safe boating atmosphere for the public and reminds everyone to wear their life jackets and to boat sober.
