This weekend the island will host the inaugural Wildwoods Thunder Over the Waves Air Show. Following a practice day on Friday, the main event takes place on Saturday from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM During the event the Wildwood Crest Police Department will increase security around the beachfront, including extra officers and restricted access. All vendors are directed to use the Cresse Avenue beach access and check in with the officer assigned to that post, with their vendor flag in place. For information on the show and to listen to the live broadcast, please tune in on the radio at 98.7 The Coast. We’ll be joining you in keeping an eye on the sky to see some great aeronautic displays and spectacular aircraft. While planes can be seen from throughout the island, the primary viewing area will be centered around the beach and boardwalk near Schellenger Avenue. Others can enjoy the show at no cost from our boardwalk and free beaches. The beach will be open to swimmers during the show. Please swim only in areas protected by Wildwood Crest Beach Patrol and remember that open alcohol display and smoking are prohibited on the beach. Boaters are welcome to watch from the water, but note that a restricted rectangular area will be marked by buoys in the waters off of Schellenger Avenue for safety. Boaters are asked to refrain from entering this area, as law enforcement will be on hand to keep this restricted space clear.
