Adkins, Hughes Charged with Felony Drug Possession
Deputy Jordan Cox with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged the following people with felony Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance: 33-year-old Amanda Sue Adkins (homeless), and 42-year-old James Robert Hughes of Morganton. Both were given secured bonds in the amount of $10,000.
On Sunday, August 31, Deputy Cox initiated a traffic stop on a truck driven by Hughes for a traffic violation. Hughes was found to be operating the vehicle with no license.
A subsequent search of the vehicle by deputies turned up suspected amounts of fentanyl and methadone. Drug paraphernalia was found on Adkins.
Both Hughes and Adkins were placed into custody and transported to the McDowell County Detention Center.
The Marion Police Department assisted with the incident.
