Provide feedback on Washington Street Vision Zero safety

Community members have until 9 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 9, to take a brief online survey to share their feedback on Washington Street road safety as part of the City’s ongoing Vision Zero initiative.

The survey is available online at https://arcg.is/1vi5bj2 and takes approximately 5 minutes to complete.

Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla signed an executive order in 2019, initiating the City’s ambitious Vision Zero campaign to eliminate all traffic-related deaths and injuries by 2030 through the Vision Zero initiative. The City has implemented a variety of safety improvements, including:

  • A reduced citywide speed limit of 20 mph
  • Expanded school zones with reduced 15 mph speed limits
  • Improved visibility through daylighting at 2/3 of intersections citywide
  • Upgraded pedestrian infrastructure such as curb extensions and retimed signals to reduce the occurrence of pedestrian-vehicle conflicts at intersections along Washington Street.
  • Installed bike lanes on over 40 percent of Hoboken’s street miles
  • Initiated a comprehensive curbside management strategy

As a result of these efforts, Hoboken has maintained a record of zero traffic fatalities for eight consecutive years.

Now, the City is seeking additional public input to help build on this progress and ensure that Washington Street remains safe and accessible for all road users, whether they walk, bike, drive, or take mass transit.
