Boil Water Advisory in effect; Water distribution sites closed; Hydrants may be opened for pressure relief
Residents are reminded that the City of Hoboken remains under a Boil Water Advisory until further notice due to low water pressure caused by a water main break at Newark and Garden Streets. Veolia will notify Hoboken customers when testing of the water distribution system determines the water supply is deemed satisfactory, and the Boil Water Advisory can be lifted.
Veolia crews continue to make repairs at the initial water main break site, as well as at another site on Ninth Street between Garden and Bloomfield Streets. Residents are asked to continue to avoid both areas, as roads will remain closed during underground repairs and temporary paving.
Customers in the immediate area of the breaks may notice low or no water pressure while repairs are being made. All residents and businesses are reminded to boil water for consumption, for at least one minute, even if it is filtered. (See more below)
Veolia will continue to monitor pressure throughout the city’s water distribution system and may open hydrants to relieve pressure, if necessary.
Boil water for consumption
Residents and businesses should bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute for the following, even if their water is filtered at home: drinking, cooking, baking, washing dishes, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets, or other consumption.
Low water pressure could potentially allow for the presence of harmful microbes in the system. Microbes in drinking water can cause illness and could pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems. Water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing clothes.

- Monroe Gardens, 221 Jackson Street
- Multi Service Center, 400 First Street

Please be advised that supplies are limited. Residents are asked to take only what they need.
