Advisory

Boil Water Advisory remains in effect; Crews remain at Garden & Newark; 9th Street reopened; Water distribution sites open at 7 a.m.

Veolia crews are performing additional repairs on a 12” water main near Garden and Newark Streets. Newark Street remains closed between Washington Street and Park Avenue, and Garden Street is closed from First Street to Observer Highway. Residents are asked to continue to avoid the area.

Repairs to an 8” water main on Ninth Street between Garden and Bloomfield Streets are complete. Ninth Street has reopened to vehicular traffic.

Hoboken remains under a Boil Water Advisory until further notice. Residents may experience discoloration and possible sediment due to the repairs and associated pressure fluctuations. Residents who experience discoloration or sediment should flush tap water on cold until it runs clear before boiling.

The Boil Water Advisory was issued due to low water pressure, which dropped below the acceptable threshold as low water pressure could potentially allow for the presence of harmful microbes in the system. Microbes in drinking water can cause illness and could pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.

Veolia has collected water samples from the city's water distribution system for testing in accordance with regulatory guidelines. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) will review the results and determine if the Boil Water Advisory can be lifted.

Veolia will continue to monitor the water distribution system’s pressure throughout the day and may open hydrants to relieve pressure, if necessary.
