Boil water for all consumption; Garden Street reopened; Water pressure being monitored; Hydrants may be openĀ
The City of Hoboken remains under a Boil Water Advisory until further notice. Veolia crews collected samples from the Hoboken water distribution system, and lab testing began this morning. Results are anticipated within approximately 24 hours. The NJDEP will review the results and determine if the water quality is satisfactory, and the Boil Water Advisory can be lifted.
Residents and businesses should continue to bring their water to a rolling boil for at least one minute, and allow it to cool, for all consumption including the following:
- Washing dishes
- Drinking
- Cooking
- Baking
- Making ice cubes
- Taking medication
- Brushing teeth
- Washing food
- Mixing baby formula or food
- Mixing juices or drinks
- Feeding pets
- All other consumption
Water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing clothes.
The Boil Water Advisory was issued following a citywide drop in water pressure during the Sept. 9 water main break near the intersection of Garden and Newark Streets as the water pressure fell below the acceptable threshold. Low pressure can potentially allow the presence of microbes in the system which can cause illness and pose a special health risk for infants, some elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.
While the system has repressurized. Veolia will continue to monitor the water distribution system’s pressure throughout the day and may open hydrants to relieve pressure, if necessary.
