Advisory

Water distribution sites now closed; Boil water for consumption

The City of Hoboken remains under a Boil Water Advisory until further notice.

Residents and businesses should bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute for the following, even if their water is filtered at home: drinking, cooking, baking, washing dishes, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets, or other consumption.

Water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing clothes.

The Boil Water Advisory is due to low water pressure on Sept. 9 caused by a water main break which has since been repaired. The low water pressure could potentially allow for the presence of harmful microbes in the system. While pressure has since been restored, Veolia will remain in the area to monitor pressure and open hydrants if necessary.

Veolia crews collected samples from the Hoboken water distribution system, and lab testing began this morning. Results are anticipated within approximately 24 hours. The NJDEP will review the results and determine if the water quality is satisfactory and the Boil Water Advisory can be lifted.

The City’s three water distribution sites, at 124 Grand St., 221 Jackson St., and 311 13th St., are closed as of 7 p.m.

Traffic Impacts

Please be advised, Newark Street from Washington Street to Park Avenue remains closed for milling and paving operations following the Sept. 9 water main break. Residents are asked to continue to avoid the area.
