Newark Police Supports Drive Sober Campaign

The Newark Police Division is joining Attorney General J. Platkin and the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, as part of a nationwide initiative to reduce crash risks, and increase awareness about impaired driving.
.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that 12,429 people died in drunk driving crashes in the United States in 2023. This is equivalent to 34 deaths per day or one life lost every 42 minutes.
.
Because the Newark Police Division supports this life-saving campaign, we urge all drivers to only drive sober and drug-free each time they get behind the steering wheel.
.
The cost of a ride-share vehicle, taxi, or other safe transportation for an impaired driver is far less than the potential legal and emotional costs, fines, and possible jail time that may result from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
.
Appointing a designated driver is another safety measure that impaired drivers should consider before taking a gamble that may cost their life or someone else’s.
.
Newark Police encourage all drivers to have honest conversations with their family members and friends about the dangers of impaired driving, especially during end-of-summer celebrations and the upcoming holiday season. #newarknj #publicsafety #police #community #partnership #cops #drunkdriving #sober #roadsafety #rideshare #designateddriver
