Advisory

Wilmington Police investigate criminal activity, disorderly crowd following parade:

Wilmington Police are investigating criminal activity and a large, disorderly crowd incident that occurred following a parade.

After 4 p.m. yesterday, at the conclusion of the annual Hispanic Day Parade, police began receiving multiple calls for service regarding criminal activity and disorderly conduct in the area surrounding 4th and Dupont Streets – including calls about fights, drunk and disorderly subjects and persons with guns. As the evening progressed, police encountered a growing disorderly crowd – estimated to include between 1,000 and 1,500 subjects – that refused orders to disperse. Police reported subjects throwing rocks, bottles and other objects, as well as cars and off-highway vehicles operated in a reckless manner in the roadway. At one point during the evening, multiple gunshots were fired.

Wilmington Police, with the assistance of Delaware State Police, New Castle County Police, New Castle City Police and other law enforcement agencies, were able to disperse the large crowd by approximately 9 p.m. There were no reported injuries.

Police are actively investigating this incident and working to identify suspects. Anyone with information about subjects involved in criminal activity is encouraged to contact Senior Corporal Keith Johnson at (302) 571-4415 or [email protected].
