Police Arrest Man for Brandishing Weapon, Making Threats

Incident Summary
 
On Monday, September 15, 2025, the Petaluma Police Department Dispatch Center received multiple calls regarding a subject brandishing a weapon in the area of Water Street at Washington Street. It was reported that the subject was throwing trash into the Petaluma River when he was confronted by a community member. The subject then brandished a weapon and threatened the community member.
 
An officer arrived quickly and located a subject matching the provided description. The subject, later identified as Todd Simone (58, Petaluma), initially refused to cooperate and attempted to walk away from the officer. Ultimately, the subject complied and was safely taken into custody without incident.
 
Further investigation determined the subject had brandished a machete at the community member and threatened their life during the altercation. Simone was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on the following charges: 422 PC (Criminal Threats), 417 PC (Brandishing of a Deadly Weapon), and 148 PC (Resisting/Obstructing an Officer).
