INCIDENT: Big Bear Deputies Stop Burglary in Progress
LOCATION: 800 block of Knight Avenue, Big Bear Lake, CA. 92315
SUSPECT(S): Jacob Matara, 40-year-old Big Bear City resident

SUMMARY: On Sunday, September 14, 2025, at approximately !2:01pm, deputies responded to a report of a subject disturbance at a residence in Big Bear Lake. When deputies arrived, they observed a small table on fire in the middle of the roadway and several windows of the residence were broken with shattered glass on the ground.
As they approached the residence, deputies could hear a subject moving around inside and items being broken. After telling the subject to exit the residence with his hands up, deputies observed the subject crawl out a back window and begin to flee. Deputies pursued the subject on foot and apprehended him.
Deputies arrested Jacob Matara, 40, of Big Bear City, for burglary, arson, vandalism, theft with prior offenses, and posession of a controlled substance with prior convictions. Matara is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $60,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear before the San Bernardino County Superior Court on September 17, 2025, at 8:00am.
