| On September 13, 2025, Thousand Oaks Patrol Services responded to a report of a shooting in the 200 block of Lombard Street. Upon arrival, officers located a victim who had sustained a single gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. The victim was transported to Los Robles Hospital Emergency Room with a non-life-threatening injury. The East County Investigations Bureau, Major Crimes Unit, was immediately notified and launched a comprehensive investigation. Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined that an altercation had occurred between multiple individuals. Following the confrontation, the suspect fired a handgun in the direction of the individuals he was involved in the altercation with. The gunfire struck a bystander who was not involved in the dispute. Detectives quickly identified the suspect as Demetrius Baccellia and developed information regarding his possible whereabouts. On September 16, 2025, Baccellia voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the Thousand Oaks Police Station. Subsequently, search warrants were executed at multiple locations. Evidence related to the shooting was recovered, including a firearm believed to be the weapon used in the incident. Baccellia was arrested for two counts of 245(a)(2) PC – Assault with firearm. Baccellia was booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility with his bail set at $460,000.00. Baccellia remains in custody with his arraignment scheduled for September 18, 2025, at 1:30pm at the Ventura County Superior Court. The city of Thousand Oaks is an extremely safe community. However, this sense of safety is occasionally exploited by the criminal element. The Thousand Oaks Police Department would like to remind citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious people and vehicles by promptly calling 911 or our non-emergency line of (805) 654-9511. If you see something, say something. |
