| The Camarillo Police Department and the Pleasant Valley Lions Club have once again partnered to provide helmets to children in Camarillo. In 2025, the Camarillo Police Department responded to several traffic collisions involving bicyclists and pedestrians. In several of the incidents, juveniles involved in these collisions were not wearing safety helmets as required by law. The police department has been conducting safety presentations to local students to educate them on the state laws and dangers of not wearing a helmet when riding bicycles, skateboards, and scooters. We have also been doing increased enforcement regarding violations throughout the city. The Camarillo Police Department partnered with the Pleasant Valley Lions Club to purchase additional helmets to provide residents free of charge, for those families of children who may not be able to afford it. On 09/15/2025, members from the Pleasant Valley Lions Club came to the Camarillo Police Station and graciously donated 50 bicycle helmets. The helmets will be distributed as needed to children in the city of Camarillo who need this vital piece of safety equipment. The helmets come in the color gray and are available in all different sizes. Please note that it is illegal for persons under 18 years of age to operate a bicycle, scooters, skateboard, roller skates or in-line skates without the use of a helmet. Helmets must also meet the standards of either the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) or the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). These 50 helmets meet both standards outlined in the California Vehicle Code. A full definition of the law is outlined in California Vehicle Code 21212(a). If your child needs a helmet, they can contact the Camarillo Police Community Resources Unit at (805) 388-5155 or come by the police station located at 3701 E Las Posas Road between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. The Camarillo Police Department would like to thank the Pleasant Valley Lions Club for their continued partnership and generous donation. We love to see our children riding bikes, skateboards, or other self-powered modes of transportation around town and having fun; we just want everyone to be safe while doing it. |
