FPD would like to warn community members about a recent scam in which callers ask for ID or payment for medical care recently performed in China.
This scheme, currently targeting local Chinese community members, especially seniors, usually involves three major steps.
- False claims of medical procedures done in China: A scammer calls pretending to be a medical or insurance provider and claims the victim had medical procedures done in China.
- Video call with foreign police impersonators: When the victim disputes the claim, the scammer arranges a video call with a scammer dressed as Chinese law enforcement.
- Request for personal info, documents, or money: The law enforcement impersonator requests personal information, like ID cards, passports, or photos of family members. Impersonators may also request money or accuse the victim of being involved in crimes.
Once a scammer has your information, they can:
- Withdraw money from your bank account
- Make unauthorized purchases/payments
- Apply for credit cards in your name
- Take out loans in your name
- Steal your tax refund
- Impersonate you to scam others
If you receive a call asking for personal information, protect your personal information. Be very careful when revealing your name, date of birth, driver’s license/ID, Social Security number, passport number, insurance information, bank account number, or credit card info.

诈骗警报：医疗诈骗 ， ⾝份盗⽤!
弗里蒙警方谨此提醒市民近期发生的诈骗案:
骗徒会要求受害者提供身份证件或支付过去在中国欠下的医疗费用。 该骗局目前主要针对本地华人，尤其是老年人。 骗局通常涉及三个主要步骤。
- 骗徒打电话冒充医疗或保险提供者, 声称受害者在中国接受过医疗手术。
- 当受害者对该说法提出质疑时, 骗徒会安排一次视频通话。通话中有冒充中国执法人员, 并穿着执法人员制服的骗徒出现。
- 执法人员冒充者会索取个人信息，如身份证、护照或家庭成员的照片。他们有时也会要求付款。冒充者可能会指控受害者涉嫌犯罪。
一旦骗子掌握了你的个人资料或身份信息，他们可能会：
- 从你的银行账户中取款
- 进行未经授权的购买或付款
- 以你的名义申请信用卡
- 以你的名义贷款
- 盗取你的退税款
- 冒充你诈骗他人
如果您接到要求提供个人信息的电话,
你必须特别小心。在透露姓名、出生日期、驾驶执照/身份证号码、社会安全号码、护照号码、保险信息、银行账户号码或信用卡信息时要非常小心。
