City of Benicia Water Conservation Order in Effect
Due to significant damage to the City’s main drinking water transmission line, all Benicia residents, businesses, schools, and facilities must immediately reduce water use. The City has declared a Stage 4 “Critical Water Shortage” emergency, requiring a 40% citywide reduction in water use. How you can help: Limit showers to 5 minutes or less Only run dishwashers and washing machines with full loads Stop all non-essential outdoor water use The damage occurred near Goodyear Road and Morrow Lane and is not related to the 2023 incident near I-680. Traffic is being detoured via Parish Road to support repair efforts. Benicia will temporarily rely on its secondary water source, Lake Herman. While the water may occasionally have an earthy taste or smell due to natural compounds, it remains safe to drink and meets all state and federal water quality standards. City crews and contractors are working urgently to restore service. Regular updates will be provided through news media, email, and social media.
