6/29 – 3:19 a.m. – Police stopped a vehicle in the 5700 block of Floraville Road for a traffic infraction. During the stop, the driver was found to be in possession of a suspected controlled substance. The subject was released, and the evidence was submitted to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The report was forwarded to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges. On September 17th, the defendant, Corey A. Word age 47 of Smithton, was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (cocaine); a Class 4 Criminal Felony. Word was served with the warrant while at the St. Clair County Jail.
