Attempted Homicide Investigation – Suspect in Custody
 
Morgan Hill, CA – On September 13, 2025, at approximately 12:13 a.m., Morgan Hill Police Department officers responded to the 100 block of Ciolino Avenue after receiving multiple reports of shots fired in the area.
 
Upon arrival, officers located several bullet casings on the street and sidewalk. While officers were on scene, they learned that a 17-year-old victim suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds had been transported from the scene to Saint Louise Hospital. The victim has since been treated and released.
 
During the investigation, detectives determined the shooting occurred when the suspect, standing on the sidewalk, fired at a vehicle carrying four occupants as it traveled along Ciolino Avenue. The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Giovani Ahumada of Gilroy. Surveillance footage captured Ahumada running south through a nearby apartment complex immediately following the shooting.
 
On September 18, 2025, Morgan Hill Police Department detectives, with assistance from the Gilroy/Morgan Hill SWAT Team, served search warrants at residences in Gilroy and Morgan Hill. Ahumada was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on charges of attempted homicide and felon in possession of a firearm.
