Sanitary Smoke Testing Notice
The City of Bixby will be conducting smoke testing of the sanitary sewer system beginning September 22, 2025 in the North Heights and Fox Hollow Neighborhoods and continuing throughout the day, weather permitting.
Purpose of Testing
Smoke testing is a standard method used to locate defects or openings in the sewer system where stormwater or groundwater may be entering. Identifying these issues helps reduce unnecessary flow to the treatment system and improves the overall performance of our sewer infrastructure.
What to Expect

A non-toxic, non-staining, odorless white smoke will be blown into the sewer lines.

Smoke may be visible from manholes, the ground, roof vents, or plumbing fixtures inside buildings (especially if traps are dry or defective).

The smoke is harmless to humans, pets, food, and plants.
Precautions

Pour water into seldom-used drains to fill p-traps and help prevent smoke from entering your building.

If smoke does enter your home or business, it may indicate a defect in your plumbing.
Access and Safety

You do not need to be home, and crews will not need to enter your residence.

Testing personnel will be clearly identified and may need brief access to manholes located in your yard.
