Sheriff Clint Roach reports that on 09/19/2025 at approximately 8:50 P.m. hours his Office responded to a personal injury crash in the 800 block of Carberry Rd in Howard Township, Cass County Michigan. 
 
The investigation shows that 27-year-old South Bend IN resident, Nicholas Austin, was traveling northbound on Carberry Rd when his vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle hit a tree and caught fire.  Austin had a passenger, Josie Williams, who along with Austin was able to exit the vehicle. Williams went to Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in Niles for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash. 
 
Both occupants were using seatbelts. Assisting in this crash was Howard Fire, Niles PD and SMCAS Ambulance.
