Quick Acting Citizens and Sheriff's Personnel Assist Man to Safety During Mental Health Crisis

LOCATION: Bear Valley Road/ Amargosa Road, Victorville
SUMMARY: On Thursday, September 18, 2025, at approximately 1:27 p.m. deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to the area of Bear Valley Road and Amargosa Road following multiple reports on an adult male climbing the chain-link fence along the freeway overpass and sitting on top of the structure.
The male adult was located on the south side of Bear Valley Road, facing northbound traffic. Prior to deputies’ arrival, two civilians and a civilian Sheriff’s Department employee who were in the area were able to safely assist the male back over the ledge and restrain him to prevent further risk to his safety or others. Deputies arrived shortly after and took over the scene. The male was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation and treatment.
We commend the actions of the community members and our civilian employee for their quick and compassionate response during this critical incident.
