VICTIM(S): Confidential, 64-year-old Female
SUMMARY: On Monday, September 22, 2025, deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station responded to a missing person report involving a 64-year-old Twentynine Palms woman diagnosed with dementia.
The victim was last seen on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m. When the daughter returned the following morning, she discovered the victim was no longer inside the residence. After an unsuccessful search by family and friends, the Sheriff’s Department was contacted for assistance.
Deputies responded to the Athol Avenue residence and initiated a search with the assistance of K-9 handler Deputy Bakker and K-9 Naji. K-9 Naji tracked the victim’s scent in a northerly direction from the residence. During the track, deputies recalled seeing a woman matching the description in the same area. Deputies conducted checks at several local businesses, which determined the victim was seen in the local area.
Deputies, supported by K-9 Naji, expanded the search into the unincorporated area of Joshua Tree. After extensive and tireless efforts by Morongo Basin Station deputies and K-9 Naji, the victim was safely located over 15 miles away, near Twentynine Palms Highway and Sunset Road.
As a precaution, Sheriff's personnel requested medical aid, and the victim was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station would like to thank all local business owners who aided in the safe recovery of the victim.
