Fatal Traffic Collision
On September 20, 2025, at approximately 9:36 p.m., Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision with injuries on Lawrence Expressway and Benton Street. When first responders arrived, they located a male subject who was identified as the driver still inside of a Honda Accord and two passengers outside of the vehicle. Santa Clara Fire Department (SCFD) personnel provided first aid and performed life-saving measures on the male driver. The male driver succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the scene. The two passengers of the Honda sustained minor injuries. Officers determined a second vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was involved in the collision and located the driver at the scene.
Based on the preliminary investigation of this incident, it appears both vehicles were traveling north on northbound Lawrence Expressway approaching Benton Street. The driver of the Honda made an unsafe turning movement which caused the left rear portion of the vehicle to collide with the front right portion of the Toyota. The collision caused the Honda to be out of control and collide with a traffic signal pole at the intersection. The Honda appeared to be traveling over the posted speed limit, but the speed is not known at this point in the investigation.
The deceased male driver of the Honda was identified as a 16-year-old resident of Sunnyvale, California. The two passengers of the Honda were both minors.
The driver of the Toyota is also a minor. The driver of the Toyota was at the scene and was cooperative with investigators. The investigation is ongoing.
