GTPD Store Retailer Advisory- Movie Money Being Passed As Legitimate Currency
Gloucester Township Police Store Retailer Advisory- Movie Money Being Passed As Legitimate Currency
GTPD Detectives are investigating recent cases involving the use of “Hollywood” or “Motion Picture” money being passed off as legitimate currency. The money being passed is nearly visually identical to real money including texture and size, aside from the highlighted parts in the circle. The circled part on the photos shows the wording change listed as “MOTION PICTURE PURPOSES” or similar wording.
The bills will not pass other security measures such as Counterfeit Pens, Counterfeit Detector Lights, or certain watermarks/ holograms. Problems persist because most cashiers are not running random smaller denomination bills through security measures to ensure their legitimacy. A quick visual inspection of any bill will prevent fraud.
If you own a business and/ or work as a cashier, utilize the Three "R's" when receiving currency:
✅Read The Bill: check the wording, check for security features like watermarks and security threads that are printed or embedded into the paper.
✅Repeat the process for every bill you receive.
✅Report any suspected counterfeit currency or movie money being passed as real currency to the Police.
