On Monday, September 29, 2025, at approximately 8:51 PM, officers from the Middle Township Police Department were dispatched to the area of State Highway 47 South and School Lane in the Rio Grande section of the township for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a motorized bicycle.

A preliminary investigation determined that a motorized bicycle was traveling southbound on State Highway 47 South when a Ford Bronco attempted a left turn onto School Lane, entering the path of the motorized bicycle. The motorized bicycle subsequently collided with the Ford Bronco.

As a result of the collision, the operator of the motorized bicycle was ejected from the vehicle. In a deeply unfortunate sequence of events, the operator of the motorized bicycle was subsequently impacted by a Hyundai Veloster, which was also traveling southbound on State highway 47.

The driver of the motorized bicycle, identified as Albert MacFarlane, 57 years old, of Rio Grande, New Jersey, was transported to Cooper Cape Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
The drivers of both the Ford Bronco and the Hyundai Veloster were uninjured.

State Highway 47 South was closed for approximately three (3) hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

This incident remains under investigation by the Middle Township Major Crimes Unit and the Middle Township Crash Investigation Unit.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Rio Grande Fire Department, Cape May County Fire Police, the New Jersey Department of Transportation, and AtlantiCare Emergency Medical Services.
