City of Sonora Council Thanks Councilwoman Betty Hernandez for Her Years of Service
At a Special Meeting held on September 29, 2025, the Sonora City Council accepted the resignation of Councilwoman Betty Hernandez, representing Ward 2. After decades of dedication to public service, Mrs. Hernandez has chosen to step down from her role on the City Council.
As part of the transition process, the City Council has begun the search to fill the Ward 2 Council seat. Eligible residents of Ward 2 who are interested in serving are encouraged to contact City Secretary Belia Fay at City Hall at 201 East Main Street, Sonora, Texas or by phone at 325-387-2558 to be added to the list of candidates. Candidates will have the opportunity to present a brief three-minute statement during the October 20, 2025, regular City Council meeting, after which the Council will decide how to proceed in filling the vacant seat.
“On behalf of the City of Sonora, we sincerely thank Mrs. Hernandez for her nearly four decades of service to Sutton County and the City of Sonora,” said City Manager Arturo Fuentes. “Her experience, wisdom, and dedication have left a lasting mark on our community. We wish her nothing but the very best in her future endeavors.”
