Illegal Marijuana Cultivation on Public Land

Illegal Marijuana Cultivation on Public Land

Valley Springs, CA – On Friday, September 26, 2025, at approximately 8:00 A.M., the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), eradicated an illegal marijuana cultivation site. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) identified a large-scale outdoor grow consisting of multiple fields of marijuana plants hidden in remote terrain. The property was identified as public land near Hogan Lake and managed by the Bureau of Land Management.

Law enforcement eradicated 1,501 marijuana plants from a hillside, where suspects had cleared native foliage to cultivate the plants among the remaining natural surroundings. Based on an estimated yield of over 1,500 pounds, the illegal grow would have produced nearly $472,815 worth of marijuana. In addition to the eradication, investigators documented environmental damage associated with the cultivation. BLM personnel remain active in a detailed investigation into these environmental violations.

No suspects were located during the operation.

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to protecting public safety and the environment by targeting illegal marijuana cultivation and related crimes. Anyone with information regarding illicit marijuana activities is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at (209) 754-6870.
