CITY OF SONORA – PUBLIC NOTICE
New Water Leak Alert Messages
The City of Sonora Utility Department would like to inform all residents and business owners about our new Water Leak Alert Program.

Over the past few months, the City of Sonora has been in the process of replacing older, conventional water meters with new ultrasonic smart meters throughout the community. These new meters provide real-time monitoring capabilities that allow City staff to track water consumption more accurately than ever before.

With this upgraded system, City Hall staff can now review and monitor daily water usage and identify any unusual spikes in consumption at both residential and commercial properties. While not all customers have received their new meters yet, those that have are now actively communicating with our monitoring system as designed.

As our staff reviews this data, we may notice unusually high water usage that could indicate a possible leak within your plumbing system. When this occurs, City staff will notify affected customers with an information door hanger or direct contact to alert them of the potential issue.

Please note:

• The smart meter system cannot determine the exact location of a leak on your property.
• It only identifies abnormal usage patterns that suggest a leak or running water issue.
• We encourage all customers who receive a notice to inspect their plumbing system and, if needed, contact a licensed plumber for further evaluation.

Promptly addressing potential leaks can help you avoid unexpectedly high water bills and supports our shared goal of conserving water resources within the City of Sonora.
