Village of Burr Ridge Statement on Federal Arrest at Village Center
Today, the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) and Homeland Security arrested a male adult on an arrest warrant in the parking lot near Starbucks in the Village Center. The Burr Ridge Police Department was advised of the presence of these law enforcement officers prior to the arrest being made, and they were also present, along with Mayor Grasso, to witness the arrest occurring as a precaution to the public. ICE was not involved, and to the Village’s knowledge, the person’s immigration status was not a factor in the arrest. When federal agents identified the individual, a loud blast was set off, at which time the federal agents arrested the individual without incident. The Village can confirm that no other forms of non-lethal tactics, such as flash bang grenades or tear gas, were used in the operation. The arrest operation lasted less than 10 minutes, after which all federal agents vacated the area immediately. The Village of Burr Ridge respects and supports law and order, as well as all dedicated federal, state, county, and local first responders, and will continue to work internally and with other agencies to the extent allowed by law to ensure that all residents and businesses in the Village are protected from crime and violence.
