This year, OPD has recovered 1,036 firearms. In a recent incident, just before 4:30 a.m. on October 4, 2025, officers patrolling the 1700 block of Broadway received reports of an individual who seemed to require medical assistance.
Officers located an adult male lying on the sidewalk, unconscious and bleeding from the lip. The man appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance. As officers performed first aid and awaited additional medical assistance, they discovered a loaded firearm on the individual.
The man was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital for treatment and later to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
The firearm was safely recovered thanks to the attentiveness and quick response of OPD officers. Our officers remain committed to protecting the community and responding to emergencies.
