TRAFFIC ADVISORY - NJ Declares State of Emergency Due to Anticipated Weekend Nor’easter and Flash Flooding

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., reports that due to this weekend’s anticipated nor’easter, producing heavy rainfall and gusty winds, many streets may be flooded. Drivers are advised to avoid flooded streets.
Tonight, there is a 50 percent chance of rain with northeast winds between 9 and 14 mph. Tomorrow, rain is expected after 8 a.m., with northeast winds between 15 to 20 mph, and gusts as high as 34 mph. Sunday night, rain is expected with a northeast wind around 20 mph, and gusts as high as 37 mph. Rain is expected to continue into Monday, with northeast winds between 20 to 22 mph, and gusts up to 37 mph.
New Jersey has declared a State of Emergency due to the potential for flash flooding, severe thunderstorms, intense rainfall, and damaging wind gusts.
Drivers should avoid the listed locations due to the potential for flooding.
The Department of Public Safety is coordinating responses to burglar alarms, flooding conditions, and other weather-related incidents through the combined use of Police, Fire, and Office of Emergency Management Personnel.
Special attention should be given to unsecured outdoor furniture, awnings, refuse, and building materials.
