NWS wind advisory and coastal flood watch in effect for Hoboken; City prepared for storm; Residents advised to take precautions
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a coastal flood warning and a wind advisory for Hudson County, including Hoboken, from 12 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 12, through 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13.
The City of Hoboken and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) continue to monitor the forecasts for the storm, which is expected to bring high winds, heavy rain, and possibly flooding to the region. Hoboken OEM remains fully prepared and encourages residents to review their own emergency plans and take precautions.
The City’s flood warning system is prepped in case gates need to be activated. Additionally, OEM has placed barricades in low-lying, flood-prone areas and has notified local contractors to secure fencing, equipment, and loose materials. Public Works crews have proactively cleaned catch basins and removed debris to assist with proper drainage.
Residents are reminded to avoid flood-prone intersections and never drive through flooded streets or around barricades. Secure, or bring inside, loose outdoor objects, including holiday decorations, especially from balconies, as high winds may cause damage.
Stay away from downed wires and report power outages to PSE&G at nj.myaccount.pseg.com/myservicepublic/outagepublic or by calling 1-800-436-PSEG (7734). Report flooded intersections or clogged drains to the NHSA Hotline at (866) 689-3970.
The Hoboken Police Department and Fire Department are working closely with OEM to ensure the Public Safety Division is fully staffed and operational throughout the duration of the storm, and if a post storm cleanup is necessary. The City and OEM also continue to coordinate with partner agencies including PSE&G, Veolia, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to ensure readiness and resource coordination throughout the storm. Residents are encouraged to limit travel, as other parts of the state and region may experience more significant impacts.
Residents are reminded that municipal offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 13, in observance of Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Street cleaning and Hop shuttle service will be suspended, however Public Works crews remain on standby to assist with any post-storm cleanup, if necessary.
Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and are encouraged to follow the City’s social media accounts for storm updates including the Hoboken OEM X page at @HobokenOEM, the City’s X page at @CityofHoboken, and the Hoboken Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/Hoboken.
