Storm Advisory for Sierra Madre. Residents are asked to prepare and take all necessary precautions

Early Winter Storm Advisory for Sierra Madre

The National Weather Service is forecasting an early season winter storm expected Monday night through Tuesday, bringing the potential for periods of heavy rain and possible flooding or debris flows near burn areas.

Residents in flow areas, canyons, and areas prone to flooding are advised to take all necessary precautions in advance of the storm. As a general reminder, the following are some helpful emergency preparedness tips:

  • Sign up for emergency alerts through Nixle and Genasys Emergency Communications
  • Review evacuation routes and have a plan ready for your family and pets.
  • Assemble an emergency kit with food, water, medications, flashlight, batteries, and key documents.
  • Clear drains, gutters, and storm grates to help prevent localized flooding.
  • Check your vehicle’s condition and keep the gas tank at least half-full.
  • Use sandbags or barriers if your property is vulnerable to flooding or debris flows.
Sand will be available for self-service sandbagging at the Sierra Madre Public Works Maintenance Yard, located at 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. Bags will be provided, but please bring your own shovel to fill them.

The City is monitoring storm updates from the National Weather Service and our regional partners. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works has issued a Phase 1 Debris and Mudflow Potential Forecast for the Eaton Fire burn scar. A Phase 1 advisory means there is currently a low risk of debris flow and flash flooding; however, residents in the following areas should anticipate minor to moderate flooding and mudflow/sediment deposition in the following areas:

Auburn Avenue, Baldwin Court, Brookside Lane, Mira Monte Avenue, Highland Oak Drive, Idlehour Lane, Mount Wilson Trail, North Michillinda Avenue, North Sunnyside Avenue, Oakdale Drive, Park View Drive, Park Vista Circle, Ranch Top Road, Riviera Drive, Santa Anita Avenue, Skycrest Drive, Skyland Drive, Skyview Drive, Stonehouse Road,  Vista Avenue,  and Woodland Drive.
