Flash Flood Watch & Red Flag Parking Restrictions in Canyon Area

FLASH FLOOD WATCH & RED FLAG PARKING RESTRICTIONS IN CANYON AREA
 
Sierra Madre, CA. – October 13, 2025
 
The National Weather Service is forecasting an early season winter storm expected Monday night through Tuesday, bringing the potential for periods of heavy rain and possible flooding or debris flows near burn areas. A Flash Flood Watch and Red Flag Parking Restrictions are in effect beginning 10:00 p.m. tonight.

The following information is for the City of Sierra Madre.  In the event that you receive an alert from Los Angeles County, please refer to the specific instructions for Sierra Madre for guidance and direction.
 
RED FLAG ACTIVATION FOR PARKING RESTRICTIONS:


This alert is effective from 10:00 p.m. on Monday, October 13, 2025, through 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical weather conditions are expected. To allow for improved public safety vehicle access, parking is restricted on posted narrow and/or winding roads within Sierra Madre’s urban-wildland interface areas. The City of Sierra Madre is requiring residents to keep the streets clear for emergency vehicle access. Under a Red Flag activation, parking on the following streets is prohibited:
 
 
  • Mount Wilson Trail
  • Churchill Road
  • Skyland Drive
  • Fern Glen
  • Fern Drive
  • Idle Hour
  • Canyon Crest Drive
  • Orange Drive
  • Woodland Drive
  • Brookside Lane
  • Sunnyside Lane
  • Yucca Trail
  • Holly Trail
  • Sturtevant
  • Elm

 
STORM PREPARDNESS
 
Residents in flow areas, canyons, and areas prone to flooding are advised to take all necessary precautions in advance of the storm. As a general reminder, the following are some helpful emergency preparedness tips:
  • Sign up for emergency alerts through Nixle and Genasys Emergency Communications
  • Review evacuation routes and have a plan ready for your family and pets.
  • Assemble an emergency kit with food, water, medications, flashlight, batteries, and key documents.
  • Clear drains, gutters, and storm grates to help prevent localized flooding.
  • Check your vehicle’s condition and keep the gas tank at least half-full.
  • Use sandbags or barriers if your property is vulnerable to flooding or debris flows.
Sand will be available for self-service sandbagging at the Sierra Madre Public Works Maintenance Yard, located at 611 E. Sierra Madre Blvd. Bags will be provided, but please bring your own shovel to fill them. 
 
The City is monitoring storm updates from the National Weather Service and our regional partners. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works has issued a Phase 1 Debris and Mudflow Potential Forecast for the Eaton Fire burn scar. A Phase 1 advisory means there is currently a low risk of debris flow and flash flooding; however, residents in the following areas should anticipate minor to moderate flooding and mudflow/sediment deposition in the following areas:
 
Auburn Avenue, Baldwin Court, Brookside Lane, Mira Monte Avenue, Highland Oak Drive, Idlehour Lane, Mount Wilson Trail, North Michillinda Avenue, North Sunnyside Avenue, Oakdale Drive, Park View Drive, Park Vista Circle, Ranch Top Road, Riviera Drive, Santa Anita Avenue, Skycrest Drive, Skyland Drive, Skyview Drive, Stonehouse Road,  Vista Avenue,  and Woodland Drive.
