Culver City Fire Department to Host 20th Anniversary Communitywide Disaster Drill at Lindberg Park

The Culver City Fire Department (CCFD), in partnership with the Culver City Police Department (CCPD), Culver City Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and Culver City Amateur Radio Emergency Service (CCARES), will host the 20th Anniversary Communitywide Disaster Drill at Lindberg Park on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 7:00 PM.

For several years, the City has led a comprehensive campaign to educate and inform residents about the critical importance of emergency preparedness and disaster planning. The 2025 Communitywide Disaster Drill, marking its 20th anniversary and held on the same day as the Great ShakeOut, represents the culmination of these ongoing efforts. This long-standing preparedness tradition brings together residents, trained volunteers, and partner agencies to strengthen coordination and readiness for large-scale emergencies. The drill allows the Culver City CERT and CCARES teams to practice emergency protocols alongside community members, focusing on earthquake and severe weather response while emphasizing the importance of coordination, communication, and preparedness across the community.

Participants will engage in hands-on activities, including search and rescue operations, radio communications, medical triage, and community education activities. The exercise underscores the importance of interagency collaboration and community readiness when responding to disasters.

Media representatives are invited to attend and observe the exercise. Members of the media and public monitoring CCFD or CCARES radio channels may hear simulated emergency radio communications during the exercise. These transmissions are part of the planned drill and do not represent an actual emergency.

How to Participate in the Evening Drill

Residents and businesses are encouraged to join the 7:00 PM Communitywide Disaster Drill from their homes or workplaces on October 16th.
  • Simulate an earthquake by practicing “Drop, Cover, and Hold On.”
  • Activate your family or business disaster plan. If you don’t have one yet, visit the Culver City Emergency Preparedness webpage to download a preparedness checklist — it’s never too late to start.
  • Signal your status once you’ve confirmed your family or household is safe by placing an “OK” sign in a window or door visible from the street or public right-of-way. An example “OK” sign can be found at the link provided on the City’s Emergency Preparedness webpage or is available at Culver City City Hall.
Residents and businesses are also encouraged to sign up for CulverAlerts (Everbridge) through the CulverAlerts Member Portal to receive official notifications and real-time updates during emergencies.
