Culver City Encourages Earthquake and Community Preparedness During the International ShakeOut Drill!

This morning at 10:16 AM, Culver City will take part in the International ShakeOut Drill, a global earthquake preparedness event involving millions of participants across the United States and around the world. We encourage everyone in Culver City to take one minute to Drop, Cover, and Hold On, and to use this time to review and update your emergency plans and supplies.
You can find preparedness resources and emergency plan templates at: https://culvercityfd.gov/Emergency-Preparedness
Culver City is also introducing tools to strengthen emergency communication and public safety:
First, Genasys Protect, a zone-based system that works together with CulverAlerts (Everbridge) to enhance how emergency information is shared with the community. Through Genasys Protect, the city is divided into 15 geographic zones, allowing first responders to send alerts directly to specific areas impacted by an emergency. This integration helps ensure residents receive timely, relevant notifications while reducing confusion and improving public safety.
Residents are encouraged to learn which zone they live or work in so they can better understand the alerts they receive. To learn more about Genasys Protect and find your neighborhood zone, visit: https://protect.genasys.com
Secondly, the Hi-Lo Audible Warning System, an audible evacuation tool that will be used to enhance public awareness during future emergencies. The Hi-Lo system uses a distinct high-low siren tone from emergency vehicles to alert residents that it is time to evacuate immediately.
“When you hear Hi-Lo, it’s time to go.”

Later this evening, the Culver City Fire Department will host the 20th Anniversary Communitywide Disaster Drill at Lindberg Park. Residents in Genasys Protect Zone: CUL-STUDIOVILLAGE may notice training activity between 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM. Participating agencies include the Culver City Fire Department (CCFD), the Culver City Police Department (CCPD), the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and the Culver City Amateur Radio Emergency Service (CCARES).
This is a training exercise only, and there is no hazard to the community. To learn more please visit:
