CASE NUMBER:
INCIDENT: Armed Burglary Suspect Arrested Following Coordinated Police Response
OFFICER SUBMITTING RELEASE: Sgt. Carla Burr-PIO
DETAILS:
In late July and early August, several Amarillo neighborhoods were affected by a suspect entering vehicles and trespassing into yards at night—often armed and wearing a mask. This week, thanks to the quick coordination of multiple APD units and our partners, that suspect has been identified and arrested.
On Tuesday, October 14, the suspect returned to an Amarillo neighborhood armed with a handgun. Through the combined efforts of our Task Force Officers, PACE Unit, Amarillo Regional Crime Center, Digital Forensics, and Crime Scene Investigators, officers tracked down the suspect’s abandoned vehicle, located his apartment, and recovered three firearms, including the handgun seen in several videos.
Two suspects were arrested:
Drayson McGee, 23, booked into RCDC with a federal hold for Felon in Possession of Firearms
Matthew Olivarez, 18, booked for Burglary of a Building
This case is a perfect example of what happens when officers, analysts, and our community work together to keep Amarillo safe. We want to thank the residents who shared video and tips, and our dedicated officers and civilian staff for their outstanding teamwork.
If you ever see suspicious activity, don’t just post it—report it. Your information could be the missing piece that helps solve a case.
