Power Outage Planned for Xcel Customers 
Xcel Energy will conduct a planned power outage in the Leadville area on Tuesday, October 21, to perform emergency maintenance at the Leadville Substation. This work is essential to improve long-term electric reliability for our community. This work is expected to impact ALL Xcel Energy customers within Leadville and Lake County. This work should not impact Sangre de Christo Electric customers. What to Expect - Outage will begin at 7:00 a.m. - Power is expected to be out for about two hours - In a worst-case scenario, the outage could last up to five hours Plan Ahead - Charge phones, medical devices, and backup batteries the night before. - Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to maintain cold temperatures. - Make sure flashlights and other light sources are ready to use. - If you rely on oxygen or medical equipment, ensure your backup systems are ready. - Local oxygen providers are aware of the outage and are reaching out to patients. - If you have questions or special needs, contact your provider directly before the outage. - Please do not park in the north courthouse parking lot starting Monday, October 20. - Lake County Public Works will place a large generator in that area to power the courthouse during the planned outage. - Xcel Energy crews will also need access to their transformer located in that lot. - Barriers and signage will be in place as a reminder. Stay Informed - Sign up for emergency alerts: https://www.lakecountyco.gov/alerts - Lake County School District will have a 2-hour delayed start. - St Vincent Hospital will remain open - The Lake County Courthouse, Public Health, and Human Services offices will have power and remain open. - Please call 911 in case of an emergency.
