Man Driving on a Suspended License, While Intoxicated, Attempts to Flee from Deputies

DATE/TIME: October 18, 2025 / 1:54 A.M.

INCIDENT: VC2800.2 (A)- Felony evading, disregard safety
                   VC14601.2(A)- Driving with a suspended license
                   VC23152(A)- Driving under the influence of alcohol

LOCATION: Foothill Boulevard / Elm Ave, Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT(S): Erick Matthew Obet, 22-year-old male, resident of Colton

VICTIM(S): State of California


SUMMARY: On Saturday, October 18, 2025, at approximately 1:54 A.M., deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Station were actively patrolling in the area of Foothill Blvd and Elm Ave. when they observed a White Audi sedan traveling at a high rate of speed.
 
Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver failed to yield, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was later identified as Erick Matthew Obet. Obet willfully and recklessly evaded deputies for several miles, before his vehicle became disabled. Obet fled from the vehicle and led deputies on a foot pursuit where he was apprehended a short distance away.
 
During the investigation, deputies found Obet to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Deputies also learned Obet is on active Probation for a previous driving under the influence charge, as well as driving with a suspended license for DUI.
 
Erick Matthew Obet was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for VC2800.2(A)-Felony evading with disregard for safety, VC14601.2(A)- Driving with a suspended license and VC23152(A)-Driving under the influence.
