Date & Time:
Thursday, October 23, from 9:00 am-11:00 am
Unit(s) Responsible:
Moorpark Police Department
Narrative:
The Moorpark Police Department is proud to announce another “Coffee with a Cop” event. Coffee with the Moorpark Police Chief and members of the Moorpark Police Station brings the police department and community members together over coffee to discuss issues and learn more about the community's resources, services, and needs.
On Thursday, October 23, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Moorpark Chief of Police Nick Odenath, along with deputies from the Moorpark Police Station, will be at McDonald’s, located at 501 New Los Angeles Ave, in the city of Moorpark, sharing a cup of coffee with neighbors. As an added bonus for this event, the Moorpark Police Department is partnering with Interface Children and Family Services.
Interface is a nonprofit agency with 50 years of experience offering a wide range of programs to Ventura County residents. Over 29 programs are available, including mental health services, parenting education, child abuse treatment, programs for sexual abuse, domestic violence, and human trafficking, family violence intervention, re-entry services, and youth services. Most programs are free. The Interface representative attending the event is bilingual and can assist with coordinating services.
Community trust is a crucial factor in the success of the Moorpark Police Department. By engaging in simple conversations, deputies and community members can keep building and strengthening their relationship.
The Moorpark Police Department invites the community to come out and ask questions, voice concerns, get crime prevention advice, and get to know the officers in your neighborhood, as well as meet representatives from Interface. This is a relaxed, informal event and is not about speeches or agendas but simply about casual conversation. Moorpark Police Department staff will also have handouts explaining our Volunteer in Policing program and our Explorer program, as well as scam and fraud prevention. Members from our Traffic Bureau and Investigations
Bureau will also be there to answer any questions. For our Spanish-speaking residents, we will have Spanish-speaking Deputies and Interface staff at the event.
The goal of Coffee with the Chief is to better understand the community and listen to residents' concerns. This community-building event encourages police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie, which help make our neighborhoods safer year-round through ongoing collaboration.
Building relationships – one cup at a time.
