Wilmington Police have arrested a man on gun charges.
On October 23, at approximately 3:48 p.m., members of the Special Operations Division responded to the area of South Market Street and Rosa Parks Drive, in reference to a person with a gun complaint. Upon arrival, police observed a male subject matching the suspect description, and made contact with 26-year-old Jowan Whitley. Following a brief investigation, Whitley was taken into custody without incident, and found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun that had previously been reported stolen.
Whitley has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Receiving a Stolen Firearm
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $17,000 cash-only bail.
