The Ragamuffin Parade is Friday; Plan for road closures and detours; HPD Halloween safety reminders

Ragamuffin Reminder

Residents are reminded that the annual Hoboken Ragamuffin Parade kicks off at 4:30 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 31. Lineup will begin at 4 p.m., at the intersection of 10th and Washington Streets. The parade route will head down Washington to Fifth Street, where participants can take advantage of a step and repeat photo opportunity.

Parade Traffic Impacts

During the parade, vehicular traffic on Washington Street, and intersecting side streets, will be diverted, on a rolling basis. NJ Transit buses will run on an alternate route during the parade. Northbound buses will operate on Bloomfield Street, and southbound buses will operate on Hudson Street.

Halloween Safety Reminders

The Hoboken Public Safety Department offers additional safety advice for Halloween, including a reminder for drivers to reduce their speed, be alert for trick-or-treaters, turn on headlights, and stop before crosswalks.

The City of Hoboken does not permit block parties on Halloween. Residents are reminded to walk on sidewalks and to cross streets only in crosswalks.

The Hoboken Police Department anticipates heavy traffic entering and exiting Hoboken on Halloween night, particularly between the hours of 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., and strongly encourages revelers to leave their cars at home. Those who must drive are reminded to use a designated driver. The HPD maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding driving while intoxicated, and violators will be fully prosecuted.
