Fatal Crash in Cass County Mi

Sheriff Clint Roach, reports that on 10/27/2025 at approximately 1802 hours his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash near the intersection of US-12 and M-217 in the Township of Porter, Cass County, MI.
 
The investigation shows that 42-year-old James 
Hettmansperger of Vandalia Mi was the driver of a Jeep Liberty was traveling eastbound on US-12 and lost control of the vehicle, crossing the centerline. The Jeep then struck the rear end of a GMC Sierra pickup and trailer driven by 44-year-old Brett White of Elkhart In who was traveling westbound on US-12.  The Jeep collided with the front of the trailer and left the roadway, coming to its final rest alongside a utility pole. EMS and Fire attempted life-saving measures but Hettmansperger was pronounced dead on scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
 
Seatbelts were worn on both subjects.  Assisting 
in this crash was SEPSA Ambulance and SEPSA 
Fire Department.
