Halloween Safety Tips from Chief Barrientos

As families prepare for a fun night of trick-or-treating, the Sierra Madre Police Department reminds everyone to stay alert and make safety a priority.

Road Closures:

  • Sierra Madre Boulevard from 2pm-5:30pm between Lima Avenue and Baldwin Avenue
  • Kersting Court from 2pm-5:30pm
  • Baldwin Avenue from 2pm-5:30pm between Sierra Madre Boulevard and Highland Avenue
  • Hermosa Avenue from 2pm-7pm between Sierra Madre Boulevard and Mariposa Avenue
  • Alegria Avenue from 4:30pm-10:30pm between Baldwin Avenue and Mountain Trail

For Parents and Trick-or-Treaters:
  • Walk on sidewalks and use crosswalks, avoid walking in the street when possible.
  • Carry a flashlight or glow sticks to increase visibility.
  • Remind children to look both ways before crossing the street and never walk/run between parked cars.
  • Avoid wearing masks that limit vision—use face paint or makeup instead.

For Drivers:
  • Drive slowly and stay alert in residential areas, expect excited children to appear unexpectedly.
  • Eliminate distractions and keep your headlights on early in the evening for better visibility.
  • Watch carefully for children crossing mid-block or running across driveways.

For Residents:
  • Keep front yards and walkways well-lit and clear of obstacles.
  • Secure pets to avoid accidental scares or escapes.

The Sierra Madre Police Department will have extra patrols throughout the evening to ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween for all. Have a safe and Happy Halloween!
